Step by step, Part IV – CHANGES In DESIGN

An interior design rarely just happens on the first try. A design project usually has to go through certain changes until we get to what works best for our clients. These changes usually apply to color and material choices, furniture selection, interior decoration and lighting design. As it’s expected, we had to tweak our design a little bit in the project, that we are closely following up in the “Step by Step” series. We have already published the first batch of interior visuals in our last post.

Now, we’ll track down the little changes that we made to the design.

design changes

LIVING ROOM

The design changes in the living room are quite a few, as a matter of fact. First, we picked a new design for the lighting fixtures in the dining and entertainment areas. Our new lighting fixtures are quite similar in design to the ones before, yet we find them more elegant.

We have replaced one of the chandeliers – the one in the sofa area, with a flush mount ceiling light. That way we open up the living space and give an individual appeal and character to the two main living areas – dining and entertainment.

We also tweaked the floor skirting design a little bit. Instead of matching it with the floor color and texture, we opted for a pure white finish that blends with the all-white walls design. We also refined our interior doors design – they are white again, but they have a cleaner modern look.

BEDROOMS

There are even fewer changes in the design of both bedrooms that only apply to the floor skirting and interior door design.

BATHROOM

There are more significant amendments in the bathroom design that apply to functional planning. It was established that the bathroom needed to accommodate a washer/dryer. The washer/dryer was designed as a built-in appliance in the main living space. We did find out, however, that the plumbing systems remodel we had to do would be way too complicated due to certain structural and architectural features of the building. That’s why we started looking for alternatives. The best solution was to swap the places of the vanity cabinet and the shower area. The newly designed shower area is smaller in size compared to the one we had before, but the vanity cabinet is much larger and features a built-in washer/dryer.

There are no further changes in layout and design here. The toilet with a built-in water tank stays in its old place. There’s no change in wall tiling design either – lucky break since we had already placed an order on the tiles! The accent walls in the vanity counter and shower areas are tiled in the same decor tiles as before. The rest of the walls are set in basic light grey tiles. The new bathroom design is quite nice since it will not only alleviate construction works, but it will also make the main living area much more quiet and peaceful without a washer/dryer to make noise there. Plus, we’ll have better storage options in the living room.
