Design project for a family home located in the city of Plovdiv. It is a two-bedroom apartment featuring a living room with a kitchen area, a master bedroom, a second bedroom for the kids, a bathroom, a powder room, a laundry room and an entrance hall. The apartment is spacious and bright, with large French windows and beautiful views of a nearby park area. The design is set in lighter shades and natural wood, with contrasting details in black. The design mixes traditional details with modern influences. This helps create a well balanced look that inspires a feeling of comfort and peace.
The living room is a large room with lots of windows. The functional layout plan features a kitchen area, a dining area and an entertainment area. The floor is set in oak colored laminate, with a little bit of black marble tile in the kitchen area. The walls are all pure white and the curtains blend in with them. The bamboo roller blinds do however stand out and match the natural wood colors in the flooring and furniture details. Lighting options include a flush mount in the entertainment area, a pendant light in the dining area, as well as recessed light and LED strip lighting in the kitchen area. A drop ceiling is designed to incorporate a large beam that cuts through the whole room. The drop ceiling is complete with crown molding where accent LED lighting can be installed.
The kitchen cabinets are designed in white, with shaker style doors and a decorative crown molding on top. The countertop is black granite, and the backsplash is also set in granite matched with black and white mosaic tiling. Some of the appliances are the built-in type, while others are freestanding. The wall cabinet above the built-in oven and cooktop accommodates a telescopic cooker hood. The cabinet above the kitchen sink features a glass panel detail. The wine shelves at the end put a nice finishing touch to the whole row of wall cabinets.
The corner sofa has a central position in the living room. Behind it, a dining table can be seen completed with a set of six chairs. An accent chair can be found in the corner by the TV unit. A soft area rug in black and white ties the entertainment area together.
The living room is directly connected to the entrance hall through a large open portal. The hallway is spacious and bright, with a floor set in black and white tiles, and painted walls in light grey and white. Furnishings include wall hooks with a small round stool, a large wall mirror and a shoe cabinet.
The master bedroom is a multifunctional space for sleep and work. The queen sized bed takes up the center of the room. A large fitted wardrobe is designed all along the innermost wall. A home office area is designed by the windows – complete with two separate workstations and a small cabinet for computer equipment.
The floor is set in oak colored laminate, and the walls are all white. A flush mount can be found on the ceiling, as well as two wall sconces beside the bed. The furnishings are set in white and oak, with contrasting details in black. Shades of dark grey can also be seen in the textiles – curtains and bed upholstery.
The kids bedroom is designed as a shared space for a toddler and a newborn. An extendable bed that will grow as the toddler grows can be found in one corner of the room. A baby crib can be seen nearby. At a later stage, it will be replaced with the same type of an extendable bed. Plenty of storage space is provided in large wardrobes and smaller open shelf units. A small kids table with a pair of chairs can be seen by the windows. In a few years it can easily be replaced with a larger desk. A soft armchair in the corner can comfortably accommodate an adult as they oversee the kids playing in their room.
The bathroom is large enough and convenient, with neatly separated shower, toilet and handwashing areas. The shower area can be found behind a clear glass screen in the innermost part of the room. The toilet is right next to it. The handwashing area is complete with a whole unit featuring a white stone countertop with undermount sink, a wall cabinet with mirror, and a large water heater cabinet to the side.
The bathroom floor is laid with two types of tiles. The shower area is set in wood like tile, and the rest of the room is laid with patterned black and white square tiles. The shower area walls also feature the same two types of tile. The rest of the walls are all set in plain white tiles.
Lighting options include recessed lights in the shower and toilet areas and a moisture resistant flush mount. The bathroom vanity cabinet features a pair of recessed lights above the mirror.
The powder room features the same type of tile as in the main bathroom – patterned square tiles and plain white rectangular wall tiles. The room is finished with a toilet, a small sink, a round mirror and wooden wall shelves fitted in a small niche. A flush mount light can be found on the ceiling, and a wall sconce can be seen right above the round mirror.
The laundry room will also serve as a closet, complete with coat hooks and wall shelves. The walls are set in light grey paint in their bottom half, and pure white paint in their upper half. The floor is laid with black marble tile. The washer/dryer and the wall shelves above it can be hidden away behind a white curtain on a black rod.
