This interior design project breathes new life into an old Sofia apartment, blending a clean, contemporary aesthetic with the distinctive details of mid-century modern style. The design achieves a balance of functionality, light, and comfort, with every detail carefully selected to transform the space into a calm and inviting sanctuary. The renovation thoughtfully preserves key elements that carry the apartment’s history and character, while new additions give it a modern look.

Project Details

Property: Two-bedroom apartment

Area: 61 sq m

Location: Sofia, Bulgaria

Style: Contemporary, Mid-Century Modern

Project Year: 2019

Living Area

The living room is a small yet cozy space, where the soft blue sofa takes center stage. It introduces a vibrant splash of color that contrasts beautifully with the room’s neutral palette. The preserved herringbone parquet floor adds a sense of warmth and classic elegance, while the geometric rug provides a soft texture underfoot. The golden finishes on the light fixtures are an additional detail that elevates the entire design.

Kitchen

The kitchen is both functional and stylish, combining clean lines with playful accents. The geometric tiles on the floor create an interesting visual effect that contrasts with the solid-colored walls and smooth cabinet surfaces. Wooden textures bring warmth to the space, while the bright yellow chairs are a fresh accent that energizes the room. Hanging light fixtures with retro bulbs harmonize with the overall atmosphere, bridging the gap between old and new.

Master Bedroom

The bedroom is a tranquil space designed for complete rest and relaxation. The combination of wood tones, beige, and white creates an airy and soothing atmosphere. The upholstered bed invites a comfortable retreat, and the rug with its geometric patterns ensures softness and coziness. Here, too, golden accents in the lighting fixtures add a touch of elegance and style, tying the room together with the rest of the apartment.

Home Office

The home office is designed as a multifunctional space that encourages productivity and concentration while also offering flexibility. The furniture includes a large desk, perfect for work, and a sofa bed that provides a comfortable spot for rest and easily converts into a bed for overnight guests. Ample storage is provided by spacious wardrobes and cabinets, keeping the room tidy. The space is easily transformable into a children’s room, adapting to the owners’ future needs.

Entryway

The entryway makes a welcoming first impression with its blend of light tiles, white brick, and warm wood textures. The space is furnished with a practical wardrobe featuring mirrored doors, a compact shoe cabinet, and unique hexagonal decorative wall shelves.
